감정은 가치판단체계이기 때문에, 감정중추인 vmPFC가 손상되는 순간 어떤 판단이나 결정할 수 없는 상태가 된다. 이성을 도대로 감정을 느끼는 것이 아니라, 감정을 토대로 판단하고 사고하기 때문에 내가 알고 있는 정보가 사실과 다르다는 것을 전달받을 때는 내가 스스로 공격받는다느 감정을 느낀다. 이로 인해 부정적인 감정을 토대로 논리적인지의 여부를 떠나 정체성을 지키기 위해 Consistency Bias 를 가지고 정당화와 변명을 만들어낸다 (Introspection Illusion). 설득하는 건 생각을 바꾼다는 거고, 그건 상대 자체를 바꾸는 것이기에 어려운 일이다.
