If high availability is required, distributed consensus can be an excellent option. However, consider the environment and what you expect from your consensus algorithm. Consensus comes at a cost. There's substantial overhead to the entire consensus process. So, if this level of availability isn't necessary and you can rely on a backup process, it will result in lower latency and higher throughput compared to using distributed consensus.
