When something doesn’t match my habitus, it feels uncomfortable. But rather than simply noticing “this isn’t for me” and avoiding it, I also find that kind of experience interesting and new. Like traveling to a new place, it makes me observe other people. In that sense, stepping outside the range of spaces I usually inhabit or explore, including awkward examples like going to fine dining, can be interpreted as “tourism” in a broad sense.
