Very Important

This is similar to the concept of weak ties theory. The danger of relying on personal connections is that you may become lazy in your efforts to find the optimal person for a task. Choosing someone because "they were recommended by a trusted contact" means abandoning the process of selecting based solely on ability from an independent pool. In other words, networking requires effort to meet multiple people based on current needs, but there's no need to maintain strong connections unless your community is small and tight-knit. Honestly, modern networking is often used less for necessity or utility, and more like a luxury brand, name-dropping to show off "I know this person too."

How

How should we deal with difficult people? Even if learning efficiency is low, there's still value in conversation - there's always something to learn. Ensure you don't discriminate in relationships. At a reasonable level, you don't need to actively expand your network because people are self-interested; if you develop your skills, people will seek you out. Those who truly need connections will realize it themselves.
Networks expand as we invite friends and people we'd like to know for meals together. It's meaningful to befriend everyone without discrimination, while clearly but tactfully pointing out their weaknesses and offering advice. Gradually broaden your scope by participating in different networks through these friends. The key to networking follow-up is figuring out how to make yourself memorable during brief conversations.
