For Cheaper Lithium-Ion Batteries, Just Add Salt
Elon Musk recently called lithium "the new oil". To find cheaper, more abundant batter materials scientists at Arizona State University have proposed a new approach: Instead of replacing lithium, they are diluting it down with sodium. Sodium is readily available as sodium chloride, or salt, in seawater, potentially easing the financial and environmental burden of lithium.
