I believe an artist needs to maintain a balance between showing their authentic self while simultaneously presenting something new. If they only stick to what's familiar, they can't truly be an artist, but if they only pursue novelty, they lose their distinctive character.
그럼에도 예술가로서의 본질은 스스로 믿는 것에 대한 의심없는 투자가 되어야 한다. 대중이 보지 못하는 낮은 해상도에서 새로운 미학을 구분해내, 구분된 시각을 제공하는 것이 예술가의 역할이다. 만약 아티스트의 시도에 대한 분해능이 없고 대중의 문화적 안목이 부족하다면 새로운 것을 기존에 있던 것으로 해석하려고 하거나 비판하곤 한다. 이는 자연스러운 현상이지만 이해하지 못하는 것에 대해서 비판하려는 접근보다는 본인 안목의 부족함이 아닌가 되돌아보자.
