Art of the era leads its culture

One definition of art is something that is better than it has any right to be expected. So that is why art provides directions for us.

How to art

Technology makes products famous, art makes people famous
Art is about expressing a moment that seems perfect to me in a way that makes its perfection visible to others, using tools that can capture and emphasize the characteristics of that perfection.
The history of beauty is created through the balance of universality and rarity. If there's content that becomes tiresome and content that remains memorable over time, that's what makes a masterpiece. Since artists are also a subset of the public, genres ultimately adapt to the public. Art that satisfies only oneself is indistinguishable from self-gratification.
While the starting points of sensibility differ, our aesthetic judgment grows by observing artists and their works. In this process, art ultimately seeks something more excellent, raising our standards while making us insensitive to less excellent things. This is tragic and leads us into a quagmire where we become increasingly unable to find happiness. The only way to prove oneself is to convince people through one's collection and output.

A person's taste in culture and art tells a lot about who they are

Don’t do art to change the world

Johnnie Walker. The Red is shit. The Black is less shit. The Blue is good. But fewer people buy the Blue because it’s expensive. And at the end of the day, most people just want to get drunk. For most of your career, your books have been Blue. They’re good, complex. But they’re not popular because most people want something easy. Now, for the first time, you’ve written a Red book. It’s simple, prurient… it’s not great literature, but it satisfies an urge. And that’s valuable. What I’m trying to illustrate is that… just because you do Red doesn’t mean you can’t also do Blue. You can do it all. - American Fiction, 2023
