Cerebellum
The cerebellum is responsible for fine-tuning and predicting movement. Rather than “creating movement,” it calibrates movement to be smooth and accurate.
- Balance
- Motor coordination: precisely regulates actions such as reaching, walking, and speaking
- Error correction: computes the difference between intended and actual movement
- Motor learning: skill acquisition such as playing an instrument, sports techniques, and typing
- Predictive processing: predicts how the body or environment will change next
More recently, the cerebellum is thought to be involved not only in motor functions but also in language, attention, timing, and cognition. Still, its core role is “precise calibration and prediction.”
