인간적이면서 합리적인 사람이 되도록, become interesting than strange

사실 대부분의 정신 상태는 일시적이고 변화가능한 상태를 나타낸다. 하지만 만성적이고 결론지어버리는 속성을 나타내는 심리학적 용어로 스스로를 표현하는 것은 편리하지만, 실제로는 DSM이라는 애매한 판단기준으로 어떤 사람을 특징지어버리는 것으로 매우 큰 오류를 가져올 수 있다. 즉 일정 기간의 부정적인 정신상태를 경험함으로써 스스로를 그렇게 특정지어버린다면, 실제로 그런 사람이 될수도 있다.

물리적으로도 우리는 계속 교체되고 있으머 자주 확신을 가지고 있던 것들도 설득에 의해 생각이 바뀌곤 한다. 선천적인 것이 영향을 많이 미치는 유전자에 기록된 개인의 본질적인 경향성은 있을 수 있지만 그 본질이 영향을 많이 미치는 부분이 있고, 적게 미치는 부분도 있다. 보통 우리는 전자를 본성이라고 하고 후자를 인지하지 못하지만, 본성도 그 영향이 작을 뿐 복잡한 레이어들 위에서 작동하는 행동으로 발현되기 때문에 미세하게 변할 수밖에 없다.

Personality becomes fixed in certain patterns (basins) over time. Personality change requires changing the environment and increasing the learning rate through new experiences. For example, trauma, drugs, and love have a significant impact on personality.

Addiction can be explained as becoming fixed in certain personality patterns. Since external environments (social media, relationships, etc.) can manipulate our personality, we need to intentionally choose our environment to develop our personality.

Personality Basins

Personality basins are a mental model that I use to reason about humans within their environment: from modelling why people are they way they are, how they change over time, how mental illnesses and addiction function along with how we should look for their cures, and how the attention economy optimizes itself to consume all of your free time.
